Summary
From January 10th to 11th, East China University of Science and Technology held a World Top Scientists Summit Forum. The forum provided a platform for researchers in the field of molecular science to share research achievements, promote academic exchanges, and foster new collaborations. The top scientists attending the summit included Professor Ben L. Feringa, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry; Academician Tian He of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Academician Ma Dawei of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Academician Fan Chunhai of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; and Professor Roeland J. M. Nolte, a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and Nijmegen University. The forum was hosted by the Feringa Nobel Prize Scientists Joint Research Center of East China University of Science and Technology, with Academician Tian He serving as the conference chair.
During the summit, Du Huifang, Party Secretary of East China University of Science and Technology, warmly met with the top scientists participating in the forum at the Feringa Nobel Prize Scientists Joint Research Center, expressing sincere gratitude on behalf of the university for their long-term support and assistance. During the visit, Academician Tian He introduced the center's construction status, development goals, and prospects. At the summit appointment ceremony, Academicians Ma Dawei and Fan Chunhai were appointed as honorary professors of our university. Vice President Qian Feng of East China University of Science and Technology presented appointment letters and university badges to the two honorary professors, welcoming and thanking them for their appointments. Qian Feng stated that the Nobel Prize Center's think tank will gather talents and draw up construction plans, which will efficiently promote the leapfrog development of the university's chemistry and related disciplines. Academicians Ma Dawei and Fan Chunhai affirmed the achievements of the Nobel Prize Center and the chemistry discipline construction, expressing their willingness to contribute ideas and collaborate on innovation for the overall development of East China University of Science and Technology.
The Feringa Nobel Prize Scientists Joint Research Center of East China University of Science and Technology, as an important carrier of the Shanghai Science and Innovation Center, holds an annual World Top Scientists Summit Forum in various forms, inviting world-leading scientists in the field of chemistry to discuss and exchange ideas, gather achievements, cultivate talents, and support the construction of the Shanghai Science and Innovation Center. At this summit, Professor Ben L. Feringa delivered a report titled "Molecular Switches and Molecular Motors," discussing the design, synthesis, and functions of molecular motors and molecular switches, focusing on the dynamics of functional molecular systems as well as triggering and assembly processes, and looking forward to future dynamic molecular systems. Professor Ma Dawei presented a report titled "Oxalyl Diamide: A New Generation Ligand for Copper-Catalyzed Arylation Reactions of Nucleophiles," covering the development of ligand-promoted copper-catalyzed nucleophile arylation reactions over the past 20 years, highlighting the biggest challenges in the field, and focusing on their discovery that N,N'-diaryl or N-aryl-N'-alkyl substituted oxalamides serve as ligands for copper-catalyzed nucleophilic arylation reactions. This not only enables the coupling reactions of copper-catalyzed (hetero)aryl chlorides with nucleophiles to proceed smoothly under relatively mild conditions but also allows copper-catalyzed coupling reactions of aryl bromides and iodides to occur at low catalyst loadings and reaction temperatures. Professor Fan Chunhai gave a report titled "Single-Molecule Analysis Guided by Framework Nucleic Acids," introducing the concept of framework nucleic acids and describing several examples of using framework nucleic acids to dynamically organize biomolecules in vitro and in vivo for molecular diagnostics and imaging. Professor Roeland J. M. Nolte presented a report titled "Guanidine-Based Cage Compounds: From Enzyme Mimics to Functional Molecular Machines," introducing the synthetic strategies and characterization of a series of guanidine-based cage compound complex molecular systems, and discussing the significance of chemical synthesis of complex systems for practical applications. In recent years, East China University of Science and Technology has achieved fruitful results in molecular science-related fields such as supramolecular chemistry, molecular machines, photochromism, fluorescent probes, and imaging. The holding of this summit not only promotes the development of the university's chemistry discipline and enhances the global influence and status of related research fields but also broadens the international vision of young research teams through close exchanges and sharing of achievements with world-leading scientists.
